The Scalp Shop resides in the guts of Butcher James, one of the coolest hidden gems in all of New York. Butcher James makes motorcycles, clothing and accessories and offers the service of Scalp Micro Pigmentation via The Scalp Shop. Butcher James is by appointment only and is tucked away in what is known as Italian Harlem to those in the know.
We are neighbors to the world famous Rao's and if you listen closely, you can hear James Caan as Sonny beating up Carlo in the Frances Ford Coppola film The Godfather (filmed a block away). Additionally, Serpico starring Al Pacino was filmed on our block alongside countless other TV shows in our historically rich neighborhood.
When booked for The Scalp Shop, you and your practitioner will be the only people in the space ensuring an extremely private and professional experience. Unlike other Scalp Micro Pigmentation businesses, The Scalp Shop's interior doesn't feel bland or medical. Instead, you enter a world straight out of a Terry Gilliam movie that is an experience unto itself.
Multidisciplinary artist Giovanni James is the creator of The Scalp Shop. Born in upstate New York, Giovanni is currently signed to Warner Bros. Records as a recording artist and in 2016 was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine as an artist defining the sound of now. To quote the New York Times, "Mr. James is a musician, magician and inventor of sorts who shares a similar vision to Alexander McQueen."
The question is, why is he doing this? Secretly, Giovanni has been held captive for many years under a hat to hide his alopecia diagnosis. Desperate to feel free again, he went on the hunt for a more natural solution and was one of the early explorers of Scalp Micro Pigmentation. After discovering this method, he fell in love with changing the lives of others who have also suffered from hair loss.
Giovanni has traveled abroad to study the art of Cosmetic Pigmentation and obtained his certification from Alec Kurucz, founder of Europe's leading cosmetic company Ecuri Cosmetics.
